The 2024 Honda Pilot makes it easy to navigate terrain that may be challenging in other vehicles. Its available all-wheel-drive system delivers confidence-inspiring stability and performance, and with the fully equipped TrailSport, Honda SUVs have never been more capable. Up to seven available drive modes let you tailor Honda Pilot’s driving characteristics to your needs and surroundings. Use the toggle on the center console to choose between Normal, ECON, Sport, Snow, Trail, Sand, and Tow modes, and see each mode’s unique icon on Pilot’s available 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster.
The redesigned Honda Pilot is comfortable and quiet, with user-friendly controls, lots of interior storage cubbies, and a hospitable third-row seat. We also enjoy its smooth and powerful V6 engine. All of these virtues make it an excellent choice for families, and have helped move the Pilot closer to the top of our three-row midsized SUV rankings.
Drive & Performance 7.5/10
The 2024 Pilot is a hefty SUV, but it doesn’t feel like it out on the road. It remains stable and composed around turns, the steering is well-weighted, and the suspension absorbs imperfections in the road to keep the ride smooth. Also, the brakes provide ample stopping power.
The Pilot features a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 285 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive come standard; all-wheel drive is available. This V6 feels stout and capable, and it allows the Pilot to accelerate briskly around town and up to highway speeds. The automatic transmission, however, can be a bit clunky when shifting. Overall, the Pilot is easy and enjoyable to drive.
Fuel Economy 8.5/10
The 2024 Honda Pilot gets an EPA-estimated 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway when paired with front-wheel drive and 19/25 mpg when equipped with all-wheel drive. These are decent estimates for the midsize SUV class. The TrailSport trim gets 18/23 mpg city/highway.
Interior 8.0/10
The cabin in the 2024 Honda Pilot is modern and capacious. Overall build quality is impressive, and the interior feels made to last. There are plenty of high-quality materials present, though some surfaces feel low-buck. The cabin is also well-insulated, allowing it to remain quiet at higher speeds.
As a three-row SUV, it has eight seats in its standard configuration, and a seven-seat layout is available by switching the second-row bench seat for two captain’s chairs. The first two rows of seats are supportive and have enough space for adults to sit comfortably. The third row, on the other hand, can fit adults in a pinch for shorter trips, but it’s probably best left to kids for longer rides.
There is a generous cargo capacity inside for a midsize SUV. This Honda has 18.6 cubic feet of space behind the third-row seats, 48.5 cubic feet with these seats folded and up to 87 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded.
Value 8.5/10
The 2024 Honda Pilot has a good value rating for the midsize SUV class. We determine value based on the vehicle’s estimated total cost of ownership and the vehicle’s MSRP for its base and top trims.
Safety N/A
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2024 Honda Pilot mostly good ratings in its crash testing. A good suite of safety features is also standard on the Pilot, including lane-keep assist and forward collision warning. Depending on seating configuration, the Pilot has up to four complete sets of LATCH connectors. There are also tether anchors for the third-row middle and driver’s-side seats.

Both of the Pilot’s touch screens are fairly easy to use with intuitive menu layouts, but the display sizes are small by modern standards, and some of the graphics are a bit dated. On the plus side, there are a few physical buttons and knobs for adjusting the audio and climate controls, and they’re a breeze to adjust while driving. The standard digital gauge cluster is highly configurable.
