Honda is striking back in the superbike class with the new 2024 Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP. While not an all-new model, there are significant changes to the power output and suspension. While this is a Euro-only model, Honda has not announced its 2024 CBR1000RR-R lineup, so sit tight. In the meantime, we have a rundown of what’s new.

  1. Power is boosted. Japanese manufacturers don’t like to talk about engine output in the United States. However, they’re more than happy to share numbers in Europe. The latest SP puts out 215 horsepower with the motor spun up to 14,000 rpm, with torque peaking at 83 ft-lbs at a lofty 12,000 rpm. This heavily oversquare inline-4 loves to rev, and it gets a lighter crankshaft and connecting rod this year to help make that happen. There’s also new valve timing, and the compression ratio is bumped up to 13:6.1. Amazingly, the new Akrapovič muffler is 5 dB quieter than last year.
  1. Gearing is lower. Honda’s goal is to “generate even more corner exit acceleration,” according to insiders.
  1. The ride-by-wire system gets updates. It’s a two-motor design to increase part-throttle sensitivity and response. Also, it provides for additional engine braking.
  1. The frame and fairing have been revised. The middle fairing is new, as are the winglets. The frame is lighter, and stiffness has been reduced.

The 2024 Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP debuts a new Öhlins fork—the third generation Öhlins Smart Electronic 43mm S-EC3.0 NPX inverted unit. The Öhlins TTX36 shock uses the same advanced Öhlins semi-active suspension hardware and software. Everything is adjustable via switchgear and the TFT display.

  1. 6. New Brembo Stylema R calipers grasp 330mm discs in the front.
  1. We have neither a 2024 Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP price nor an arrival date in the United States. However, we can tell you it’s available in one color—Grand Prix Red.
