One of several small ship lines that have staked out a claim on United States rivers, the Great Lakes, and coastal waterways, American Splendor has been sailing the Mississippi since 2012.
Launched in 2016 as America and given a revamp for the 2022 season, American Splendor is slightly larger than the line’s other ships, with 185 passengers, but it features the same easygoing ambiance and attention to enrichment.
Holding 185 passengers, the American Splendor paddlewheel is new to the Mississippi River in 2016. You’ll enjoy the comforts of the most spacious staterooms, plus enjoy seven lounges onboard.
Similar to its sister ship the American Heritage, the American Splendor is designed to provide you with modern comforts while surrounded by classic elegance and river cruise hospitality.
American Splendor will be completely made-over with new color palettes, luxurious textiles and linens, new furniture and carpets, and artwork and flourishes. From the staterooms and suites to the lounges and dining rooms, the new décor will pay homage to the legendary Mississippi River.
The American Splendor cruise ship represents a traditional USA paddle-wheeler steamboat design, also known as a “paddle steamer” (since these large river ships were originally powered by steam engines). While in America the paddle wheel is mounted at the stern, there were also ships with two paddlewheels mounted at their sides instead of at the back.
