American West formally Queen of the West river cruise ship deck plan shows a total of 74 staterooms for 120 passengers served by 47 crew/staff. The boat has 4 passenger decks (all accessible via 1 elevator), 4 lounges and bars, and 1 restaurant.
The 230-foot American West is propelled by a three-story-high churning paddlewheel. But unlike earlier paddle wheelers, American West doesn’t rely on a steam engine.
Instead, it is powered by a revolutionary hydraulic propulsion system that uses environmentally safe biodegradable hydraulic oil. The new “authentic” paddlewheel provides a quieter and smoother ride, with less impact on the environment.
Another unique feature of the American West: A 45-foot-long bow ramp allows passengers to go ashore anywhere along the river, much as the 19th-century vessels did. Passengers can take a shore excursion sponsored by the cruise line or arrange their own outing in ports.
In time for the 2022 cruise season, American West will be completely made-over with new color palettes, luxurious textiles and linens, new furniture and carpets, and artwork and flourishes. From the staterooms and suites to the lounges and dining rooms, the new décor will pay homage to the legendary Columbia & Snake Rivers.
The vessel was built for the “American West Steamboat Co”, previously owned by “Majestic America Line” (now defunct), purchased by American Cruise Lines in 2010. This boat represents a tradition for this region of the United States paddle-wheeler design.
American West will feature well-appointed staterooms with private balconies offering unobstructed views of the beautiful Pacific Northwest landscapes. In addition to the amazing scenery, our master chefs have been busy preparing menus that are tailored specifically to this captivating region.
Some of the boat’s best features are the specially designed, custom-made furniture in cabins and public spaces, and the expanded passengers’ accommodations, many of which with private balconies. Service on board is attentive (by young staff), highly personalized, and the atmosphere is intimate and cozy.
