Originally ordered by the governor of Egypt (Khedive Ismail), El Mahrousa yacht has traveled the world throughout. She was present at the Suez canal opening in 1869. During her exploitation, she has been lengthened twice: by 12.1m in 1872 and by 5 meters in 1905. She has received her last major refit in 1950.

She has slipped to worse conditions in the 1970s before being refitted in 1992 to sail to Italy. She now serves as the presidential yacht of Egypt but most often is seen in the harbor of Alexandria where she is operated by the Egyptian navy?
